Kelly Anchors is originally from Raleigh, N.C. where she grew up acting in plays at Theater in the Park. From there she went to East Carolina University where she earned her BFA in Acting. After graduation, she had her big break as Jemima Boone in the Harrodsburg, Kentucky Outdoor Amphitheater production of The Legend of Daniel Boone, where she learned how to pack a musket.

From there she headed to Chicago to get in on the nitty gritty storefront scene. She worked with many off loop companies before landing a role in Victory Gardens’ 1992 production of Working Magic, where she met Mike McKune. They rubbed together two nickels and founded Sweetback Productions in 1994 and have been shoe stringing it ever since. Mike McKune hails from Chicago and earned his B.F.A. from the Theater School at DePaul in 1989. He worked around town for a few years and did shows at the Next, Organic, and Goodman. Shortly thereafter, he met Kelly Anchors in Working Magic at Victory Gardens and the rest is Sweetback history. They started to do their own storefront thing and have been producing hits together in Chicago for 30 years.
